Time to Monitor Our Radical Muslim Preachers

The attempt on Christmas Day to blow up a Delta Arlines plane by a would-be terrorist radicalised by imams in the UK and Yemen should be a wake up call to our Government to closely monitor all islamic preachers, institutions and organizations here.

US intelligence appears to have fallen down simply by not heeding the advice of reliable sources, including British Intelligence and the terror suspect's own father.

Australian counter-terrorism preparedness, meanwhile, has a gap so wide you could drive Kevin Rudd's ego through it.

Three examples illustrate this -

- Hizb ut-Tahrir, a fundamentalist organization that seeks to remove all governments and institute a world-wide islamic caliphate, though banned in Germany, is openly operating here.

- Tablighi Jamaat, a jihadist organization banned in Russia, was the ideological force behind the ill-fated Camden islamic school.

- A proposal by former Immigration Minister in the Hawke Government, Chris Hurford, to deport radical sheik Hilaly, formerly of the extremist Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, was overturned at the behest of more influential Labor identities who as usual put votes before the national interest.

Like the Carmichaels and carbuncles of the Communist Party in the old days, who were also courted by Labor, jihadists only want freedom so they can eventually take away our freedom.

Globally there are now armies of young fanatics who believe jihad is the answer, just as in the 1960s and 1970s there were those who believed Mao and Pol Pot had the answer.

One Nation says, on terrorism, let us learn from the experience of others and always err on the side of caution.
