One Nation Says Don't Sell the Snowy.
It was bad enough selling Telstra, The Commonwealth Bank and Qantas, now
our
cash-strapped State Labor Government has told us it is selling our 58 per cent
share of the the Snowy Mountains Scheme.
The Snowy Scheme is the most complex, multi-purpose, multi-reservoir hydro
scheme in the world with 80 kilometres of aqueducts, 140 kilometres of tunnels,
16 large dams and seven power stations (two underground). It was started by an
Act of Federal Parliament in October 1949 to divert the Murrumbidgee, Snowy and
Tumut Rivers so as to irrigate the western side of the Great Dividing Range, and
generate hydro-electricity for NSW.
In those days they didn't fiddle around with environmental impact studies and
native title, they just - did it.
Luckily there were no greenies then or it would never have been built.
During its 22 years construction 100,000 workers were employed (of whom over 100
were killed in industrial accidents). They were Australians, British, Germans,
Greeks, Irish, Italians, Latvians, Norwegians, Polish, Yugoslavs and many
other nationalities.
An impressive achievment, for Australians to be proud of. But what would that
mean to the carpetbaggers and globalists of Macquarie St? They can't even
build a few kilometres of tunnel that no-one wants across the city and get it
right. After decades of mismanagment by people who cannot see past the next
election, their safe seats and fat superannuation payouts all we have are
toll-roads, legal casinos, bad hospitals, bad schools and a gaping black hole
in our state finances. Now we will have to give international bankers and
overseas investors control of these rivers and pay out for ever to them for
the privilege of using the resource our own forbears built with their sweat and
hard labour.
One Nation urges all people of NSW to contact their MPs and media and protest
against this skullduggery. It can be stopped! Make that phone-call, send that
email, write that letter and take it to Australia Post, before they sell that as well!
